WAIAHOLE, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A 76-year-old pedestrian was fatally struck early Tuesday while trying to cross Kamehameha Highway in Waiahole in a marked crosswalk.
He was identified as Orencio Timbas, of Kaneohe.
Police said the driver in the crash, 28-year-old Simeamao Finefeuiaki, was arrested for several charges, including accidents involving death, driving without a license and criminal contempt. She has since been released pending investigation.
The crash happened about 4:20 a.m. on a dry roadway, and forced an hours-long closure of Kamehameha Highway at Waiahole Homestead Road. Police reopened lanes around 7:05 a.m.
Timbas was taken to a hospital in critical condition, where he later died.
The Honolulu Police Department reports the fatality is the 50th so far this year on Oahu roads. That compares to 32 at the same time last year.
