Mister Rogers and his iconic neighborhood honored in Google Doodle

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Google is paying tribute to the national TV icon Mister Rogers in a very special way.

If you click the Google logo Friday, a short stop-motion film will play of Mister Rogers (real name Fred Rogers) singing the iconic opening song of "Mister Rogers' Neighborhood."

Google says that, "The Doodle aims to be a reminder of the nurturing, caring and whimsy that made the show feel like a 'television visit' between Mister Rogers and his young viewers."

Friday marked the 51st anniversary since the filming of the first episode of "Mister Rogers' Neighborhood" on Sept. 21, 1967.

The episode premiered nationally on PBS in February 1968.
