KAHULUI, MAUI (HawaiiNewsNow) - The temperature hit 90 degrees mid-day Thursday at Kahului Airport.
But the heat index — or what it feels like outside — was actually much hotter.
As in 106 degrees hot.
Much of the state is seeing hot and muggy conditions, and the tradewinds aren't expected to return until Saturday.
In the meantime, forecasters are warning residents and visitors to dress appropriately and drink plenty of water if you're outside.
At noon Thursday, it felt like 95 degrees at Honolulu Airport (the actual temperature was 87 degrees).
At Kona Airport, the mercury hit 88 degrees but it felt like 98.
Lanai City was the only spot that didn't have a heat index into the 90s. The temperature was 81 degrees at noon, but it felt like 84.
