HAIKU, MAUI (HawaiiNewsNow) - Maui County Council members are asking for $3 million to help repair a road destroyed during Tropical Storm Lane's heavy rains.

Heavy floodwaters from Lane collapsed Puu Way in Haiku cutting residents off from their homes and forcing them to hike through a trail cleared by the county.

The road's collapse also damaged a waterline.

It is expected that President Trump will approve the county's request for hurricane relief funds, which would cover only 75 percent of the repair and replacement costs.

Repairs are expected to take up to eight months.
