HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - What's your no. 1 cause of financial stress?
If you answered "debt," then you're like a lot of Hawaii residents, according to a recent survey from GoBankingRates.com.
In fact, 67 percent of Hawaii survey takers said debt was their top source of financial stress.
And that's not too surprising. A separate survey found that Hawaii has the highest average debt per person, at a whopping $869,250.
That's more than three times the debt of the second most-indebted state, Maryland.
Of those surveyed in Hawaii, 83 percent said they carried a mortgage and three-fourths said they had credit card debt.
GoBankingRates said the most common cause of financial stress nationally is the everyday costs of living.
