Howard's Illustrated Economics - biggest land owners in Hawaii
It's time for Howard's Illustrated Economics. This time, he answers the question "Who are the largest landowners in Hawaii?" with his signature legos. The state of Hawaii owns the most land with 1,376,000 acres. The federal government comes in second with 531,000 acres. That includes all national parks and the military bases as well.
Outside of those two, we'll cover the top 8. Haleakala Ranch on Maui is the 8th largest land owner with 29,000 acres. Grove Farm, a historic site on Kauai, comes in at number 7 with 31,000 acres. Next up, Molokai Ranch has 54.000 acres.
Even though land developer Alexander and Baldwin has recently sold a lot of land, it still weighs in at number 5 with 87,000 acres in Hawaii.
Oracle owner Larry Ellison is in the number 4 position with his purchase of Lanai. The Robinson Family has 101,000 acres on Niihau and Kauai, but most of that is on the Garden Isle.
Parker Ranch, on Hawaii Island, is a working cattle ranch that is now run by a charitable trust. It has 106,000 acres. And Kamehameha Schools is the single largest land owner with 363,000 acres.
And that's your biz.
