8/22 10 p.m.: Heavy rains prompt flash flood warning for Hawaii Island

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Hurricane Lane is expected to pass "dangerously close" to the Hawaiian islands this week, bringing the threat of very heavy rainfall, powerful winds and dangerously large surf.

Officials have issued several weather alerts across the state ahead of Lane. Here are the latest alerts divided by counties.

Hawaii County

  • Hurricane warning
    • A hurricane warning means that hurricane conditions are expected within 36 hours.
  • Flash flood warning
    • In effect until 6:45 a.m. Thursday. Warning includes Hilo, Naalehu, Paauilo, Waipio Valley, Orchidlands Estates, Kukuihaele, Hawi, Pepeekeo, Keaau, Honokaa, Ookala and Hawaiian and Paradise Park.
  • Brown water advisory
    • Dirty storm water runoff in coastal areas surrounding Hawaii Island
  • Flash flood watch
    • A flash flood watch is in effect for the entire state through Friday afternoon in anticipation of heavy rains.
  • High surf warning
    • A high surf warning is in effect from Tuesday night through Thursday night

Maui County

  • Hurricane warning
    • A hurricane warning means that hurricane conditions are expected within 36 hours.
  • Flash flood watch
    • A flash flood watch is in effect for the entire state through Friday afternoon in anticipation of heavy rains.
  • High surf advisory
    • A high surf advisory is in effect for east-facing shores of Maui until 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Oahu

  • Hurricane warning
    • A hurricane warning means that hurricane conditions are expected within 36 hours.
  • Flash flood watch
    • A flash flood watch is in effect for the entire state through Friday afternoon in anticipation of heavy rains.

Kauai County

  • Hurricane watch
    • A hurricane watch means hurricane conditions are possible within 48 hours.
  • Flash flood watch
    • A flash flood watch is in effect for the entire state through Friday afternoon in anticipation of heavy rains.
