HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Forget about politics - this weekend is all about high school football.
And this Saturday up on the North Shore, Punahou will travel to Kahuku High School for a showdown against the Red Raiders in the Hawaii Night Light's "Game of the Week."
Kahuku is coming off a dominating performance last week against Konawaena where the defending OIA champs bullied the Wildcats en route to a 61-9 victory.
On the other side of the field, however, Punahou will play in its first game of the 2018 season.
"It's one of the best teams ever out of Hawaii," said Punahou head coach Kale Ane. "Kahuku has got a great tradition to be able to go to their place and play is an honor".
The Red Raiders have come back this year with a new head coach in Sterling Carvalho. Despite the change in coaching staff over the past few seasons, the team's success on the field has not wavered.
With the introduction of the Open Division, Carvalho will not only deal with a new team, but new opponents as well.
"It just shows you how tough this schedule is right off the bat it's Kahuku vs. Punahou," Carvalho said. "The state is excited our fans are excited but most of all our players are excited and hungry."
Kahuku vs. Punahou will kickoff at 6:30 at Kahuku High School.
