WAIKIKI (HawaiiNewsNow) - A famous "Whaling Wall" in Waikiki is about to get a fresh coat of paint at the hands of a well-known local artist.

Artist Wyland is repainting and restoring the mural, and he hopes to do it in a one-day marathon painting session.

The repainting will take place from sunrise to sunset Wednesday at the Royal Aloha Condominiums on Ala Wai Boulevard.

The 16-story mural is number 67 in his famous 100 "Whaling Wall" series. The public is invited to gather and watch as he pulls off the feat.

Wyland is well known for his stunning paintings and life-sized murals of humpback whales and marine life.

He says back on the 25th anniversary of Earth Day in 1995, the mural was dedicated by actor Pat Morita, who was best known for his role as Mr. Miyagi in the movie Karate Kid.
