Near month-long closure begins at the Pearl Harbor Bike Path
AIEA, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The city has closed off a portion of the Pearl Harbor Bike Path Monday, and it will remain closed for most of August, impacting bicyclists who ride through the area.
From Aug. 6 to the 25, city crews will work to clear the area of the path from Lehua Avenue to Waipio Point Access Road.
During the closure, abandoned vehicles and debris will be removed, and maintenance to the sidewalk will be performed.
Signs advising bicyclists of the upcoming closure are posted. During that time, they will be detoured onto Kamehameha Highway.
The closure will also be used to clear out any homeless living in the park.
"In addition to maintenance work, enforcement of the city's Stored Property Ordinance (SPO) will be performed during the closure by the Department of Facility Maintenance. The city's Office of Housing will be working with service providers before SPO enforcement takes place so that affected individuals have access to social services and shelter," the city said in a news release.
When the path reopens at the end of August, officials will continue to enforce the SPO.
