HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - On Tuesday, July 31, teachers will be welcomed back to school! Students head back to school on Monday, Aug. 6. There are many  hard-working teachers who have worked over the summer break to ready themselves as well as their classrooms – whether through professional development or just the effort it takes to ensure their classrooms are ready to foster engaging learning.

At the state level, the Department of Education has been busy over the past year with  recruitment efforts to ensure schools are properly staffed with talented educators. They have taken a combined approach – implementing aggressive recruiting here and on the mainland, long-term strategies to grow capacity locally and expand the pipeline of folks going into teacher, Troops to Teachers, teacher academies at high schools.

They are also committed to providing critical supports for our new teachers through an induction and mentoring program, providing all beginning teachers with a trained instructional mentor in their first three years of teaching.
