2 dead after crash on Piilani Highway in Kihei

KIHEI, MAUI (HawaiiNewsNow) - Two people were killed Friday afternoon in Kihei when a motorcycle slammed into a van on Piilani Highway.
Killed in the crash were the operator of the motorcycle, 42-year-old William Kerr Chapman, and the driver of the van, 48-year-old Tina Louise Hanback. They were both residents of Kihei.
Police said the crash happened about 1:15 p.m.
Chapman was pronounced dead at the scene, while his passenger sustained critical injuries.
She was taken to Maui Memorial Medical Center for treatment.
The driver of the van was also pronounced dead at the scene, while a passenger was taken to Maui Memorial Medical Center in stable condition.
The two killed in the crash bring the total number of traffic fatalities on Maui so far this year to nine, compared to four at the same time last year.
