VOLCANO, HAWAII (HawaiiNewsNow) - State transportation officials said Friday that they were on track to complete repairs to Highway 11 in the Volcano area by the end of the day.
Big Island motorists were advised to avoid Highway 11 in Volcano while crews assessed possible earthquake damage in the area. Photos taken Thursday and Friday showed what appeared to be a sinkhole on the roadway.
Only one lane of the major highway is open, near mile marker 30, as crews work to fill the hole, which is believed to have been caused by ongoing seismic and volcanic activity.
