KAPAA, KAUAI (HawaiiNewsNow) - For years, counties have struggled with vandals at parks. They've destroyed bathrooms, broken water pipes, left behind walls of graffiti.
But what Kauai park officials found at the county pool in Kapaa on Thursday morning is probably a first.
Someone, they said, had smeared feces on the bottom of the pool.
"It is unfortunate that anyone would cause damage to a facility used by so many people," said Lenny Rapozo, Kauai County director of Parks and Recreation, in a news release. "The pool will reopen tomorrow and resume summer recreation to all swimmers."
Officials said they've filed a police report.
The pool is a busy one, especially during the summer. It has a variety of programs, including open swim, and programs for kids and adults.
