7-year-old boy critically hurt after being hit by SUV in Mililani
MILILANI, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A 7-year-old boy was critically hurt after being struck by an SUV in front of his home in Mililani on Tuesday.
Police say the boy was struck after running out from the driveway of his home. The boy's aunt, who was outside cutting grass at the time of the accident, says he was chasing after his toy truck.
First responders arrived at the home Kumumao Place around 5:30 p.m., and paramedics transported the child to a hospital.
Police Maj. Ryan Nishibun said the driver of the SUV was a 73-year-old woman.
He said speed and alcohol aren't believed to be factors in the crash.
Although police don't suspect the driver was speeding, the child's aunt says she believes the woman was driving too fast for a dead-end street.
Those who live along the street say children play in the cul-de-sac often.
Police said the driver doesn't live in the area, and was visiting family in the neighborhood.
