OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Honolulu police are no longer hunting for a man accused of driving a white van around Kalama Valley before kidnapping and raping a teen girl.
The 16-year old reported the incident to authorities, but multiple police sources tell Hawaii News Now they do not believe it was a random incident and that there is no immediate danger to the community.
A manhunt was launched Wednesday at 2 p.m. after the girl reported that she was abducted at gunpoint while jogging along Mokuhano Street and assaulted in a white cargo van with tinted windows.
The victim later told HPD that she was able to escape after the van stopped. She was taken to the hospital, where she underwent a rape test.
Panicked residents called police about multiple white cargo vans in the area, and police pulled many of them over to check the driver.
By Thursday afternoon, sources say, the detectives had been called back and were no longer chasing those tips.
