KAUAI (Hawaii News Now) - Kauai Mayor Bernard Carvalho Jr. signed a supplementary emergency proclamation on Tuesday evening to continue emergency operations on Kauai.

"As we enter into our second full week responding to this state of emergency, our agencies must continue to work in an expeditious manner for the health and safety of our people," Carvalho said in a news release.

"Every day we remain steadfast as we continue to make new strides towards recovery, but there is still much work left to be done."

After testing the safety of beaches along the island's coastlines, Department of Health officials closed brown water advisories for MacArthur Park, Hanapepe Salt Pond, Poipu Beach Pavilion, Kalapaki Beach, Kealia Beach Park, Anahola Bay Pavilion, Hanalei Bay Pavilion, and Waioli Beach Park.

DOH officials collected water samples Tuesday from other beaches around the island, and will announce the results when they become available.
