Authorities identify victim in fatal Ewa Beach shooting

EWA BEACH, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Authorities have identified the victim in a fatal shooting in Ewa Beach on Sunday as 41-year-old Chief Petty Officer John Hasselbrink.

Hasselbrink served in the Navy at Pearl Harbor for 22 years before dying in the fatal shooting on on Sunday.

Gregory Farr, 33. was arrested Sunday on suspicion of murder, before later being released on Tuesday. Police say the case remains under investigation.

The fatal shooting happened about 3:15 a.m. Sunday when Hasselbrink was apparently trying to get into a home Kaileolea Drive in Ewa Beach. Police say the victim was attempting to open the front door of the suspect's home when Farr opened fire.

Neighbors in the area say they heard loud popping sounds and then watched as police and other emergency vehicles filled their street.
