HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Fire investigators released new details about a deadly fire at a Makiki apartment last week Wednesday that left one man dead.

One week after the fire, HFD said the fire was intentionally set and the case has been turned over to Honolulu police for further investigation.

The man killed in the three-alarm blaze was identified as 49-year-old Alvin Asakura.

Asakura was trapped in unit 402 when the fire broke out around 11:20 a.m. HFD responded with more than 50 personnel.

On Saturday, HFD released damage estimates from the fire.

HFD says the unit where the fire began sustained $200,000 in damage. Neighboring units sustained $180,000 in damage, bringing the total to $380,000.
