WAIPIO, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Waipio residents can now enjoy four new renovated play courts at the Waipio Neighborhood Park.
The $395,700 project to upgrade the courts began in November and was scheduled to finish this summer. The City and County of Honolulu announced Monday that it was completed two months early.
Part of the park was transformed from four dilapidated and abandoned tennis courts to two new full-sized basketball courts, a volleyball court and two pickleball courts.
"This project is a great example of community input helping the city to re-purpose and upgrade a public facility to make it more appealing for active use," said Department of Parks and Recreation Director Michele Nekota in a news release. "This neighborhood park is such an integral part of the community, and we hope these new courts will encourage family, friends, and neighbors to enjoy the outdoors."
