HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - In addition to having some of the best beaches, weather and people, one area of Hawaii is now being recognized for its public transportation.

According to new transit score rankings by Redfin, a real estate company, Honolulu has moved up a few spots to position itself among the top 10 cities for public transportation.

It's the first time Hawaii has made the top 10 list since it first launched in 2012.

According to the site, more than 69 million people in Honolulu ride TheBus every year.

"The new Transit Score ranking announced today by Redfin is proof that the nearly 2,000 workers who keep our bus system running strive for excellence each and every day, and our commitment to a transit system that covers all of Oahu will only improve once our rail project begins service along our busiest and most populated corridor,"Honolulu Mayor Kirk Caldwell told Redfin.

Hawaii was was in the eleventh spot last year and successfully bumped Miami out of the number 10 spot. The top three cities for public transit were New York, San Francisco and Boston.

Rankings are determined by each city's transit score, which is calculated by factoring in usefulness of public transit routes near a given location.
