BIG ISLAND (HawaiiNewsNow) - Towering flames caught the attention of drivers in Kona Sunday morning.

A rubbish truck caught fire on Alii Drive shortly after 9 a.m.

There were no reports of injuries, but the roadway was shut down for close to four hours.

The driver's daughter tells Hawaii News Now the man wasn't aware anything was wrong with the truck until the fire broke out.

"Basically what he did was get it as far away from the houses as he could and then he jumped out so that nobody else was in danger," Denise Rodrigues said.

It's unclear what caused the dump truck to erupt in flames.
