WAILUA, KAUAI (HawaiiNewsNow) - Hunting feral pigs on Kauai's Sleeping Giant mountain range is being looked at by Department of Land and Natural Resources officials.

Currently, hunting in the area is not allowed. A proposal is would open Sleeping Giant, formally known as Nounou Mountain Forest Reserve, to bow and arrow hunting only.

DLNR officials want to determine whether it's an effective way to reduce the number of pigs on the mountain.

A community meeting is scheduled for Friday Feb. 9 at 5:30 p.m. at the Kapaa Middle School cafeteria.
