Need help processing the false missile alert? Here's where to find help

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The false missile alert on Saturday put more than 1.4 million residents and visitors in a state of panic, fear and confusion.

Even though it was a false alarm, it no doubt rattled the state.

Officials are pointing to various resources for people who may have experienced some emotional trauma after the event.

Child & Family Service is extending the hours of its hotline for parents with concerns about helping their children affected by the false alarm.

The hotline will be available from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. from Tuesday through Friday.

The Oahu number is (808) 526-1222. The neighbor island number is 1-800-816-1222.

The University of Hawaii at Manoa also wants to remind students that counselors are available on campus 24/7. Residence hall staff are also checking in with students.

If you or a loved one are in crisis, you can call the state's crisis hotline at 832-3100 or toll-free on the Neighbor Islands, 1-800-753-6879.

The crisis hotline is manned round-the-clock and will connect you with a mental health professional. If you're experiencing an emergency, call 911.
