HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A former Jefferson Elementary School teacher was found guilty of sexually assaulting a child.

Michael Wright, a 35-year-old former science teacher, was found guilty on Thursday of one count of first-degree sex assault and two counts of third-degree sex assault.

Prosecutors say the encounters happened multiple times over a two-year period, and that he was grooming her for a relationship.

Wright's attorney argued that the girl was lying, but a jury disagreed.

Wright faces up to 30 years in prison when he's sentenced on March 15.
