DIAMOND HEAD, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Diamond Head Theatre could soon get a major upgrade as plans to redevelop the space move forward.
A final environmental assessment found that a redevelopment would cause no significant impact to the surrounding area.
Plans are to upgrade the building to a 500-seat venue with improved stage mechanics and enhanced theatre experience.
The steel-framed addition attached to the back of the existing theatre would also be renovated for administrative and educational spaces.
The estimated price tag for the redevelopment project is $20 million.
The theatre hopes to break ground in late 2019, depending on the success of a fundraising campaign.
