Woman's body found after New Year's Eve brush fire on Kauai

HANAPEPE, KAUAI (HawaiiNewsNow) - Kauai police are investigating after a woman was found dead after a brush fire in Hanapepe on Sunday.

The brush fire happened about 5:30 p.m. near mile marker 18 on Kaumualii Highway.

After extinguishing the blaze, firefighters discovered a woman's body in a ditch near along the highway.

A dog was found roaming in the area near the victim.

An autopsy is being scheduled to determine the woman's cause of death.

Police are asking for information on the woman's identity and what may have led up to her death.
