KAILUA, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Parts of Kailua Beach Park will be closed starting Monday as City and County of Honolulu crews work to remove sand to reduce the risk of flooding.

Crews will close the boat ramp, parking lots near the boat ramp, parking spaces near the boathouse and pavilion on the Kaneohe side of the stream, and the beach where the work will take place.

The city said the bathroom near the boat ramp will remain open.

Crews will be using heavy machinery to push sand from the mouth of the Kaelepulu Stream.

Work is expected to wrap up by Friday.
