KAHALA, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Another Kamehameha Schools property in Kahala is set for demolition starting next month.

Nine years after Waialae Bowl shut down, the 59-year-old building next to Kahala Mall will be razed to make way for a new complex.

The McDonald's corporation is leading the development. The fast-food restaurant is expanding and will be joined by 10 other eateries and shops.

Stephany Sofos, a real estate consultant, calls it a welcome addition.

"Kahala really needs more restaurants," she said. "There's not enough interesting places to go, and after a while, you've been two or three times, you don't want to go out. You start to venture out to other places."

The Kahala McDonald's will close on Friday.

The redevelopment is expected to be finished by late September.
