MAUI COUNTY (HawaiiNewsNow) - Residents on Maui can now purchase alcohol 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Maui is the first county in the state to relax existing liquor laws that restrict the sale of alcohol between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m.
Mayor Alan Arakawa signed the new regulations in early March. Retailers, hotels and wholesalers are now permitted to sell alcohol any time of the day.
Prior to the changes, retailers could only sell alcohol between 6 a.m. and 11 p.m. The cut off time for liquor sales at hotels was at 4 a.m.
Despite the new changes, bars, restaurants and nightclubs separate from hotels or condos, are still restricted from selling alcohol between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m.
