Authorities seize 10.5 pounds of heroin on Honolulu-bound flight

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Four members in an alleged drug ring in Honolulu made their initial court appearance in federal court on Monday.

On March 5, Drug Enforcement Administration agents arrested James Jesse Perez, Justin Ka'ahu, Tevita Mailei and Maurice Johnson for allegedly trying to smuggle heroin on a Hawaiian Airlines flight using concealed compartments in a suitcase.

Federal investigators seized 10.5 pounds of heroin. The drugs have a street value of more than $20,000.
