HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Katherine Kealoha is no longer the third highest ranking city prosecutor in Honolulu.
Hawaii News Now has learned that the wife of former Police Chief Louis Kealoha was demoted from division director of the Career Criminal Unit at the city Prosecutor's Office to team captain, one step below her previous position.
Emails obtained by Hawaii News Now show the change in assignment. The Prosecutor's Office maintains it was part of a routine reorganization in the entire office and not connected to the FBI public corruption investigation clouding the Kealohas.
Sources say she will be supervising fewer people and have a smaller role in decision making.
The change is effective Wednesday and comes one month after her husband was forced to retire as police chief.
While the demotion lowers Kealoha's status at the prosecutor's office, it does not affect her salary.
Deputy Prosecutor Scott Bell takes her place as head of the unit.
