WAIPAHU, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A chain reaction crash involving at least five vehicles brought traffic on the H-1 Freeway in Waipahu to a standstill on Wednesday morning.
All westbound lanes of the freeway were closed for more than an hour after the 7:30 a.m. crash, which happened just before the Waipahu exit.
Two people were seriously injured. Paramedics treated a 27-year-old woman for a possible face injury after she rear-ended another vehicle. The driver in that vehicle, a 48-year-old man, suffered an apparent neck injury after his vehicle overturned. Paramedics took both patients to a trauma center.
Another crash happened moments later on Kamehameha Highway near Radford Drive, police said, adding to the westbound gridlock.
Police reopened all westbound lanes of the H-1 at around 9 a.m.
