HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The FBI has arrested a University of Hawaii at Manoa professor on suspicion of possessing and transporting child pornography.
Beei Huan Chao, 61, of Honolulu was arrested Wednesday without incident after being indicted by a federal grand jury.
A university spokesman confirms that Chao is a mechanical engineering professor. A University of Hawaii website also identifies him as the graduate chairman of the mechanical engineering department.
He was previously awarded the excellence in teaching award by the Board of Regents in 2002.
If convicted, he could face up to 20 years behind bars. He remains in custody and his first appearance in court is scheduled for Thursday.
