Big Island fire destroys vacant home in Nanawale Estates

PUNA, BIG ISLAND (HawaiiNewsNow) - A fire on the Big Island Thursday afternoon destroyed a vacant, three-story home in Nanawale Estates, fire officials said.

When crews arrived shortly after 3:30 p.m., they found the structure engulfed in flames and the doors unlocked. The roof and some walls were also partially collapsed.

Firefighters managed to extinguish the flames about two hours later.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but damage is estimated at more than $136,000.
