Hawaiian Word of the Day: Pahu
HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Hawaiian Word of the Day is pahu. Pahu is the Hawaiian word for drum, more specifically, the drums used for religious ceremonies and for hula. These pahu were often made from the stump of the coconut tree, which was dried, hollowed out, and then covered with shark skin. Hawaiian pahu differ from similar drums in Polynesia, as Hawaiian pahu are played only with our hands, rather than with sticks, like in Tahiti and Samoa. The Hawaiian Word of the day is pahu.
