NORTH SHORE, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A body boarder in his 30s was rescued Thursday, after getting into trouble in the big surf.

An Ocean Safety spokeswoman said the man got caught in the impact zone of a wave. A lifeguard got him above water quickly, and brought him to sure. Lifeguards performed CPR until the patient regained a pulse and was breathing on his own.

He was then taken to a hospital in serious condition.

The rescue was one of two on the North Shore on Thursday. Lifeguards also completed 1,600 preventive actions.

Surf along the coastline was averaging 16 to 24 feet.
