SAND ISLAND, OAHU (HAWAIINEWSNOW) - The man killed in Tuesday night motorcycle crash on Sand Island Access Road is Malik Baxter, a Kaneohe based U.S. Marine.

Investigators say the 20-year-old from New York lost control and hit a fence and a light pole before being thrown from the motorcycle.

His family members said Baxter came from a large family of military men who were very proud of him. His parents said their son could make anyone laugh because of his laugh. They said he dreamed of owning his own motorcycle shop one day.

"That's a hard thing to get over. Somebody you watch come into this world, you watch his little boo boos growing up, and graduating to different grades and go through school and sit there and watch him graduate. And now you're gonna be laying him to rest, it's hard," his father Willie Baxter said.

Baxter leaves behind his father, mother and six siblings. His funeral services will be held in New York.

This is the sixth traffic fatality of the year compared to 11 last year.

The crash is still under investigation.
