Honolulu firefighters respond to 2 vehicle fires Monday morning

WAIPAHU, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Honolulu firefighters responded to two vehicle fires Monday morning in Waipahu and Kalihi.

The first fire happened around 1:30 a.m. on Paiwa Street where a vehicle appeared to have hit a garage support column. The engine of the car then caught on fire, which firefighters extinguished shortly thereafter.

Authorities on scene said the driver fled.

It's not clear what caused the crash.

Firefighters then worked to put out a truck fire near the intersection of Kalani and Kalihi Streets.

The fire was reported around 4:45 a.m., according to Honolulu police.

The Honolulu Fire Department has not yet released further information, so details are limited at this point.
