HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Hawaiian Word of the Day is Iolani.
Iolani, which means Royal Hawk, is a name which refers to Kamehameha the fourth, whose full name was Alexander Iolani Kalanikualiholiho. He reigned over the Kingdom of Hawaii as Regent from 1855, until his death eight years later when he was just 29 years old. Iolani is also the name of the Royal Palace, which was the first royal residence, in the entire world, to utilize electric lights.
