HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Hawaiian Word of the Day is anana. An anana is a Hawaiian unit of measurement which is equivalent to the distance between the longest fingers of an individual while their arms are outstretched. When the first missionaries came to Hawai'i and began translating words and concepts from Hawaiian into the English language, they translated the word anana into the English word "fathom" is a measurement particular to determining depth of water. The Hawaiian Word of the Day is anana.
