Hawaii trio places 2nd worldwide in startup competition
HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Startup Weekend is a 54-hour competition where you pitch an idea, form teams, build a prototype, get customer feedback, figure out a business model and present in front of judges who decide a winner.
Take the top three winners from two weekends and they compete in The Global Startup Battle. Each team submits a 90 second video and then tries to get online votes; the votes are tallied with the judging scores and the top 2 from each region move to the final 12 and then a winner is chosen.
We talked to the 2nd place GLOBAL winners who competed against thousands of people in over 60 countries and 220 cities participate: Buddy Leong (13), Koko Leong (10), and Kyndra Leong (6).
They showed us what they made, the plans for the future, talked about their collaboration with GoPro and the upcoming Kickstarter campaign for 2016. They are also sharing a portion of their profits with a non-profit organization.
