HONOLULU (AP) - A committee leading Hawaii efforts to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War wants to connect with Vietnam veterans so they may be honored for their service.
The state estimates 36,000 Vietnam-era veterans are living in Hawaii. The committee wants to make sure they are thanked and honored for their service, valor and sacrifice. The committee also wants to thank their families, especially those who lost loved ones during the war.
The committee is asking veterans or their family members to register on the state Office of Veterans Services website at www.dod.hawaii.gov/ovs to make sure they are invited to upcoming events.
The state says information entered in the database won't be shared with other organizations.
Events will be held from this year through 2017. The 50th Anniversary of Vietnam Commemorative Committee is leading the efforts.
