HAUULA, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Honolulu police closed Kamehameha Highway in both directions after a pedestrian was fatally struck by a vehicle in Hauula Wednesday evening.

The crash happened just before 7:30 p.m. on Kamehameha Highway near Waikulama Street.

Police identified the woman as 79-year-old Ramona Dela Cruz. Officials say she was crossing Kamehameha Highway after getting off a city bus when a man in his 50's hit her. She was not in a marked crosswalk.

Dela Cruz was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition where she later died.

Neighbors said the victim lived in the area.

The road remained closed for more than three hours and traffic was rerouted onto Kawaipapa Street.
