BIG ISLAND (HawaiiNewsNow) - A new lava flow has started pouring from Kilauea's Pu'u O'o vent on the Big Island.
The breakout first started early Thursday morning and is headed in a new direction. Instead of flowing easterly towards Pahoa, the flow is heading north.
The communities of Fern Forest, Eden Roc and Fern Acres are located about three miles away.
So far, the flow is narrow and is advancing quickly.
USGS officials say these communities are not threatened, but that they will continue to closely monitor the lava flow.
