HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - As the Tour de France ends, the Tour de Bikeshare Hawaii begins.  The Tour de Bikeshare Hawaii arrives in Honolulu with its first look of a bikeshare installation this month. There will be bikes installed in a sample racking system at Honolulu Design Center.

There will be four bike system choices that Bikeshare Hawaii, with input from the public, will choose from in the coming months.

Bikeshare Hawaii hopes have approximately 2,000 bikes at 200 stations from Waikiki to Chinatown by early 2016. After this first phase, plans are to then expand throughout the state.

The major goal for the system is convenient mobility for people who live, work, or play in Honolulu. Stations will be accessibly placed at key locations and be so ubiquitous that a rider never needs to worry about where to pick up or drop off a bike.

The bikes are designed for short trips of two to four miles and will provide a cheaper, healthier, friendlier and possibly faster alternative to driving.
