HONOLULU (AP) - The University of Hawaii is expected to announce the cost of attendance stipends for scholarship athletes Tuesday.
The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reports that a news conference is planned for the morning.
NCAA legislation allowing schools to offer stipends to scholarship athletes came into effect Aug. 1. The stipends are to cover costs beyond tuition, books, room and board, which was all previously covered by scholarships.
Athletic Director David Matlin said last week that if fully funded, the maximum stipend would be just under $4,000 per athlete, though they may not be fully funded or available to all athletes. Matlin declined to say how many of the approximately 250 scholarship athletes will be covered.
