PEARL CITY, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) - [Update 6/1/15]

Drivers traveling on the H-1 Freeway may not have seen any road closures late Sunday night through Monday morning as was mentioned last week.

According to Scott Ishikawa of HART, the state Department of Transportation advised Kiewit not to work until after midnight Monday morning because of ongoing graduations.

The DOT did allow Kiewit crews to work late Saturday night into Sunday morning since it didn't affect the work week commute. The extended shift likely helped crews complete more work, Ishikawa said. Therefore, Kiewit decided at the last minute not to work Monday morning since the shift would've been short and unproductive.

Ishikawa said overnight work will resume Monday evening through Friday morning as previously scheduled.

As part of rail construction, three right westbound H-1 lanes will be closed overnight from 11 p.m. Saturday to 10 a.m. on Sunday.

The Farrington Highway eastbound loop on-ramp onto the H-2 Freeway will also be closed during those hours.

State transportation officials also said that beginning this Sunday, multiple lanes will close overnight on the H-1 Freeway in both directions into next week.

Three lanes will be closed between the Kamehameha Highway Overpass and the Waiawa Road Overpass on Sunday night, May 31, through Friday morning, June 5, from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m., nightly, for the rail project.

  • Three right eastbound lanes closed 8 p.m. to 4 a.m.
  • Three middle westbound lanes closed 9 p.m. to 4 a.m.
