LAHAINA, MAUI (HawaiiNewsNow) - Maui firefighters continued to monitor hotspots on Monday from a brush fire near Lahainaluna High School.
Firefighters arrived to the scene at around 4:40 p.m. Saturday where they found a half acre of light brush on fire in the area.
Since then, the fire scorched about 7 acres of brush in an open field bordered by Princess Nahienaena Elementary, the Kahoma Stream, Lahainaluna High School and its softball field.
No structures were damaged, but flames came within 50 feet of buildings at the elementary school.
Six Maui Electric Company utility poles were scorched.
No injuries were reported.
The fire department is still investigating the cause, but it is believed to have started near Lahainaluna High School property.
