WAILUKU, MAUI (HawaiiNewsNow) - A 25-year-old man is dead after a single-vehicle motorcycle crash in Wailuku Sunday morning.

Authorities say the crash occurred on Kahekili Highway near Puuohala Road in Wailuku at approximately 1:47 a.m.

Preliminary investigation reveal that a white 2006 Kawasaki ZX-6R motorcycle was traveling south on Kahekili Highway, when the driver failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway, crossed left of the center median and collided into a guardrail.

Officials say the motorcycle was being operated by a 25-year-old Pukalani resident identified as Chevis Pacheco-Carlos.

Pacheco-Carlos sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials say he was wearing a helmet at the time of this crash. The involvement of speed, drugs and alcohol have not been determined as the investigation is still pending.

This is Maui County's 4th traffic fatality of 2015, as compared to 1 1 at this same time last year.
